Estimate

In the theory of point estimation, a parameter $\widehat{\theta }$ is chosen from a parameter space $\Theta $. The chosen parameter $\widehat{\theta }$ is the statistician's best guess - in a sense to be made precise - of of the true and unknown parameter $\theta _{0}$. This best guess is called an estimate of $\theta _{0}$.

More details about parameter estimation can be found in the lecture entitled Point estimation.
